Central Plains Water Limited is an irrigation scheme in Selwyn District, Canterbury with the capacity to irrigate 63,000 hectares of farmland between the Rakaia and Waimakariri Rivers. The Scheme was constructed in three stages between 2014 and 2018. Operated by Central Plains Water Ltd (CPWL), it is the largest irrigation scheme in the South Island with an estimated value of $422M and is owned by 380 farmer shareholders and operates on co-operative principles. Shareholders include dairy, sheep and beef, arable and vegetable farmers.  Every farmer maintains commitment to a farm environment plan regime.

Due to a planned upcoming retirement by rotation, the Board is seeking to appoint an Independent Director to its Board.  We seek interest from people who show strong interpersonal skills accompanied by previous experience working at the governance level, coupled with excellent relationship management, stakeholder engagement and networking skills.

Specific skills sought include either Project Management in large-scale infrastructure projects, or experience in a Corporate Finance/Treasury function.  It is preferable that successful candidates be Canterbury based and have an affinity with the agri sector, however this is not a prerequisite for an application.

Applicants must possess senior executive leadership experience with a proven track record of effective contribution to the successful performance and long-term future planning of a significant business.  Strong leadership skills, proven strategic thinking ability, well-developed commercial and financial acumen, stakeholder management and a high level of intellect are therefore essential.

The Board usually convenes at six weekly intervals with additional meetings when required.  This is a remunerated appointment.

To apply in strict confidence now, please complete the ‘apply for this job’ application form, attaching your cover letter and CV.  Applications close on 16 August 2020.  Emails will be electronically acknowledged and further correspondence may be by email.
