  • Key Governance Position
  • Diverse and Changing Industry
  • Commercial Focus – Community Benefit

About the Company:

The Lines Company is proud to keep over 18,500 customers connected to electricity throughout the King Country, Ruapehu and Central Plateau.  The company is owned by the Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust (WESCT) and as such, distributable profits go back into the community by way of either customer discounts or local sponsorship.  The Lines Company also owns Influx Energy Data Limited.

About The Role:

The Shareholder, Waitomo Energy Services Customer Trust, seeks to appoint a Director to The Lines Company board due to the retirement of an incumbent director.  The appointee will demonstrate a strategic, commercially focused and innovative mindset and will work collaboratively contributing diversity of thought to ensure successful and sustainable long-term business performance.  It’s an exciting time for the electricity sector, with the emergence of disruptive technologies, an ever-evolving regulatory environment and changing consumer behaviours.  Accordingly, the ability to respond to industry challenges and identify new growth opportunities will be key to ensuring that the community continues to benefit from this successful investment over the long term.

Applicants must have well-developed financial, legal or IT skills and, ideally, some exposure to the electricity sector.  This should be supported by a proven track record of effective contribution to the successful performance and long-term future planning of a significant business at a governance level.  EQ, proven strategic thinking ability, well-developed commercial acumen, and a high level of intellect are therefore essential.

  • Ian, Raewyn and Kelly did a tremendous job helping the Hockey New Zealand Board distill down the key skills we needed in our CEO, and ultimately assisted us with a comprehensive and efficient interview and selection process. We could not have asked for more.

  • Andrea gave a very positive presentation and had been involved in several similar appointments. Based on this, we decided to partner with Sheffield for the appointment of the new Principal/Headmaster.
I would strongly support another school deciding to use Sheffield for a similar appointment.

Tony Deavoll, Chair, Shirley Boys' High School - Christchurch

  • I have a long relationship with Sheffield and with Louise and Mike, which means Sheffield knows me, and our business, well.
Trust them, they know the market, and they know what they’re doing

Katrina Benedetti, GM People and Culture, Ravensdown - Christchurch

  • I am very aware of how good the Sheffield Search facility is, and at this level, Search is a very important part of the process.
There was also a value-add through Mike’s perceptibility – he is very astute when it comes to reading candidates

Jane Huria, Board Chair, UniMed - Christchurch

  • The added value to the process was high-level, trustworthy and had integrity - Sheffield gave us the tools to make our decision with confidence.
I always felt supported by Sheffield and always knew Mike was at the end of the phone to ask any questions if I needed to.

Marie Black, Mayor, Hurunui District Council - South Island
