The Diocese is a diverse place, with a wide variety of ministries, parishes, schools and other Catholic bodies across the majority of Canterbury and Westland, as well as the Chatham Islands.   The Catholic Diocese of Christchurch is at an exciting time as it strengthens its future in the region, achieving their vision through:

  • A shift in focus from ‘maintenance to Mission’ – growing, strengthening and proclaiming
  • Establishment of five new parishes in Christchurch and changes in the Selwyn District
  • Creation of the cathedral precinct with construction of the new cathedral, a pastoral centre and a community hub.

 

About The Role: 

The role is broad based with responsibility for:

  • Developing and implementing a proactive strategic communications plan for the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch, to ensure effective communications with all stakeholders of the Diocese
  • Enabling the Diocesan vision through leading the development and delivery of innovative communications  
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring the communications team.

 

What you will bring:

  • At least four years’ experience in diverse communications roles with evidence of success through a range of media, including social media
  • Skill as a competent, compelling and quick writer, able to tailor communications for multiple and diverse audiences and with a love for great copy
  • Proven ability in stakeholder engagement, with a collaborative approach, excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to influence
  • A proactive and engaging style, with a can-do and flexible attitude
  • A strong customer service ethic with internal and external customers, and a high degree of personal integrity
  • Ability to effectively lead the team towards high levels of performance
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work autonomously
  • An understanding and empathy with the ethos of the Roman Catholic Church
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field.

A teams focus, able to work closely and collaboratively with others and a commitment to your own professional development are also important for this role.
