What’s it like?

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council is proud to be one of only two Councils in New Zealand to hold an ‘AA’ CouncilMARK Assessment. The council might be small – but it has big ambitions and expectations of themselves, the calibre of their leadership and the work they deliver for their community.

Working at pace with a small team, you can expect to be involved in both organisational strategy and operational detail on any given day.  You will be a collaborative leader who enjoys working in partnership with community and stake holders to deliver the best outcomes for the district. With diverse and competing priorities, you’ll need to be both agile and focussed to ensure we deliver on the things that will be most transformational for the community.

What we expect from you

You will have deep expertise in successfully enabling and leading high performing teams. Your commercial acumen will reflect an understanding of how to lead in contexts of change whilst balancing budget, risk, and contractual complexities.

You will be an authentic and values lead leader. You cultivate and manage successful relationships – particularly with community, stakeholders, and partners.  You’ll have experience leading change and enduring continuous improvement. Most importantly, you’ll understand and demonstrate a clear passion for working with others to solve problems and deliver outcomes.

Although not a strict requirement, you will likely have experience in asset, contract, or project management.
