About the Organisation:

An area of natural beauty, the Tasman District includes Murchison in the south, Golden Bay in the northwest and is bordered by Nelson City in the east.  It has a resident population of 58,700 and a land area of 9,616 square kilometres. The Council is one of only five unitary authorities in New Zealand, performing the roles of both a regional and territorial local authority.

Tasman District Council is in an exciting phase as it works with the community and stakeholders on a range of strategies which are focused on achieving balance between the needs of people and communities, economic development and maintaining the unique natural environment of the region. The Mayor and Councillors are looking to appoint a Chief Executive Officer who will lead their team with vision and a passion to do the absolute best for the region’s people, communities and economy.

Ideal candidates will have a track record of delivering results in a complex environment with many stakeholders and priorities, holding a senior position either as an established Chief Executive Officer seeking a new challenge, or an experienced senior executive looking to step up to a Chief Executive Officer position.  Collaborative in style, your passion for leading people and inspiring teams to thrive in their work is important, as is your comfort to challenge the status quo, enabling continuous improvement in these times of change.

Attributes sought include a track record of building effective relationships with elected members, iwi partners and stakeholders at all levels within the community, proven financial and strategic acumen, along with a strong community service ethos. You will see the bigger picture, be resilient, have an energetic and enabling approach, and will understand and embrace the challenges our communities face.

While a background in local/regional government may be advantageous, the Council is happy to consider executive candidates with experience in other public or private sector organisations. This is a unique opportunity to play a key leadership role and make a difference in a growing and attractive district offering many opportunities.
