Chief Executive

Waikato

  • Drive organisational excellence, sustainable and engaged communities and economic growth
  • An exciting opportunity in the vibrant and growing Waikato region

The Waikato District Council (WDC) is one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing districts. Home of the Kiingitanga and at the heart of the ‘Golden Triangle’ (Auckland, Tauranga, and Hamilton), we support thriving tourism, farming, forestry, geothermal, freight, and logistics industries. Council’s vision is to create liveable, thriving, and connected communities.

The Chief Executive provides strategic leadership and efficient management of all aspects of Council’s activity. This includes the enhancement of organisational capability and accountability, and the nurturing of close relationships with mana whenua, community, regional stakeholders, business, and central government. The development of strategies that realise economic growth, foster a customer-focused and efficient organisational culture, and ensure robust financial management practices are also crucial.

Preferred candidates will be progressive, energetic and highly influential in style. They will have open, engaging and collaborative leadership qualities (not necessarily gained within the local or central government sectors), well developed political and intellectual acuity, and a track record of delivering impressive results. Knowledge of issues related to public infrastructure, governance and building trust and confidence with communities will also be important for success in this role.

For those seeking to work in a highly ambitious, future focused organisation, this role represents a compelling next career step.
