About the Role:

With long serving and well-regarded Chair Gill Cox retiring off the Board, this is a rare opportunity to lead a new phase of growth at Transwaste, creating capacity to innovate and to embrace the exciting commercial opportunities and partnerships this high performing business will look to explore going forward.

 

Skills & Experience:

Candidates of interest will be seasoned Directors with Chair experience and strategically, commercially and financially astute with industry knowledge in waste management, landfills, waste to energy, or similar. You will be known as a strong leader with an inclusive and collaborative style, ideally with some exposure to CCO’s and an understanding of regulatory frameworks and local government.  As a natural relationship builder, you will already be well networked in the Canterbury region and will:

  • Have experience with JV’s, commercial partnerships and collaborative enterprises
  • Point to an exceptional track record of successful stakeholder and community engagement, including partnerships with mana whenua
  • Have relevant exposure to H&S and risk assurance in a similar high-risk environment
  • Have a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and ESG
  • Be available for the requirement to travel.

About the Company:

Kate Valley is the home of Tiromoana Bush, Canterbury’s 407-hectare regenerating lowland native forest, the Gareth James Energy Park that produces renewable electricity from methane gas and the Canterbury Regional Landfill. Located in the Hurunui District, one hour’s drive north of Christchurch City, Kate Valley is owned by Transwaste Canterbury, an innovative public-private partnership, bringing together the Christchurch City Council and District Councils of Ashburton, Hurunui, Selwyn and Waimakariri, and Waste Management New Zealand Ltd, the largest private waste company in New Zealand. Since 2005 they’ve been trusted managing our community’s waste to the highest environmental standards at the Kate Valley Landfill and Gareth James Energy Park.
