The Opportunity
We are seeking an exceptional leader to guide Hockey New Zealand through a transformative period as it strives to:
- Open and grow the game across New Zealand’s diverse communities
- Consolidate New Zealand as a top tier international performer with Olympic medal potential
- Inspire and expand its fan base
- Develop a sustainable financial model with enhanced commercial and philanthropic partnerships
Key Responsibilities
The Chief Executive Officer will:
- Lead strategic planning development and execution aligned with the organisation’s vision, goals and strategic direction
- Build and lead a high-performing, values-driven team culture that supports wellbeing and success
- Develop meaningful relationships with diverse stakeholders – including the hockey community, funders, partners (including NZ Māori Hockey), other sporting bodies, government and the international community
- Secure and grow diverse revenue streams, to ensure long-term financial sustainability
- Oversee effective delivery of Hockey New Zealand’s operations, including high-performance and pathways plans, grassroots development and support, and national and international events
- Represent Hockey New Zealand as a credible and compelling public and media voice
The Ideal Candidate
You will bring:
- Proven executive leadership, with organisational transformation experience
- Capability to unify diverse stakeholders toward common goals
- Strong commercial acumen and a track record of revenue generation and sustainable growth
- Exceptional relationship management skills across all levels
- Results-driven approach balancing strategic oversight with focused operational execution
- Either a background in, or a deep understanding of sports and sporting systems
