The Background

Sheffield has been working with Sivantos, a leading hearing aid manufacturer. With headquarters in Singapore and a regional office in Australia, they were looking for a New Zealand based recruitment partner to help recruit a new Christchurch based General Manager for the local business they’d recently acquired, House of Hearing. Trying to find someone who could fit both the cultures of a family grown business and a multinational required a special type of person.

What We Did to Help

Working with the internal HR team, Sheffield developed and delivered a Management Fundamentals Programme to establish a standard for leadership with a focus on driving performance though effective performance focused conversations and to lift team leadership capability. This three month programme enabled a shift in leadership capacity to focus and drive performance supporting the organisation’s wider transformation programme to a leaner and faster paced company.

Australia and New Zealand Managing Director of Sivantos, Paul Guthrie, is based in Brisbane and spoke to a number of NZ firms before selecting his preferred recruitment provider. “At the end of the day I just connected with Sheffield. I felt very confident that we were both on the same page and that they really understood the type of person we were looking for; one who could continue to manage the company locally, but who could also comfortably relate to a global corporate environment.”

What Happened as a Result

It was important for Sivantos that they worked with a recruitment partner that had a strong understanding of the local market. “We’ve got a good handle on the hearing market in New Zealand, but not the talent market,” said Paul.

“I was really happy with the process,” said Paul. “It was carried out succinctly and went very smoothly. All candidates that were presented were of a high calibre. If we have another opportunity in New Zealand, we’ll certainly turn to Sheffield.” After undertaking Sheffield’s rigorous process, House of Hearing appointed Michael Sellwood into the role. Michael commenced his new role in September 2017.
