About the Role:

As part of the Workforce and Employment Relations Team, this Principal Advisor position maintains a reputation for delivering first-class public sector employment relations policy advice to the government of the day.

You will provide thought leadership for the Commissioner and Agency Chief Executives on the design of a modern public sector employment relations framework, including how we organise to deliver system responses to cross-agency employment relations issues.

Another key part to this role is the leadership of cross-agency policy engagement on workforce and employment relations matters in a manner that is responsive, collaborative, and flexible.

We are looking for someone who can get excited about contributing to developing the strategy and policy capability within the Group, and across the Commission, and see its potential for positive impact across the Public Service.


Skills & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:


  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, able to present complex matters simply.
  • Sophisticated interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships both within the Public Service Commission and externally, including understand different stakeholders’ motivations and the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Experience in policy development, and an interest in workforce or employment relations policy, legislation, or strategy.
  • A commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
