Chief Sales and Distribution Officer

Our purpose | Tō mātou kaupapa

Since 1979, UniMed has been helping New Zealanders and their whānau access the healthcare they need, when they need it. As a New Zealand-owned, not-for-profit mutual health insurance Society, we are guided by a genuine purpose led commitment to the long-term health and wellbeing of our 140,000 Members.

UniMed is the third-largest health insurer in New Zealand, but our aspiration is to grow and have an even greater impact. Our values of Aspire, Care, Trust shape how we work, how we lead, and how we show up for our Members every day.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this new role is a genuine opportunity to shape how UniMed grows. As Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, you will be the architect and driver of UniMed's sales and distribution strategy across all direct and intermediated channels, covering employers, groups and individuals.  You will have full ownership of sales and retention targets, key account and relationship management, intermediary and distributor relationships, and the operational performance of your function. You will also be a key member of the executive team contributing to our overall strategy and culture.

About you | Mōhou ake

UniMed operates in a complex, regulated, and challenging market. The person who thrives here will relish that context. Great candidates will be successful sales and business development leaders with experience that includes insurance, health, financial services, or adjacent sectors. You have a track record of driving new business growth, led both direct sales teams and intermediated channel partnerships, managed teams across geographies, and operated at or near executive level with experience contributing to enterprise-wide strategy. You will also know how to create a successful sales culture: one grounded in high performance, accountability, partnerships and a genuine focus on the delivery of great customer outcomes. You are equally comfortable in a complex commercial negotiation as you are building the capability and culture of high-performing teams.

Equally important is how you lead. You can manage complexity with clarity, navigate ambiguity with confidence, and inspire those around you with a compelling vision for what is possible. You understand that in a values-led, not-for-profit organisation, sustainable growth and genuine care for Members are not competing priorities: they are the same goal pursued together.

If you are ready to take ownership of this pivotal function and help shape the next chapter of UniMed's growth story, we would love to hear from you.
