Catholic Social Services is an Agency of the Catholic Diocese of Christchurch.  The service offers high quality programmes at absolutely no charge to anyone in need. About The Role: 

The Social Services Manager role is broad based with overall responsibility for the effective delivery of services to fulfil the Diocese mission to promote human dignity, equality, participation and respect for human life, through the provision of services that support families and individuals on their life journeys and reflecting the Gospel and the social teachings of the Catholic Church.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that Catholic Social Services seeks as an integral part of the church, to reach out to human need.
  • Management of day-to-day operations of the service.
  • Leadership of the Social Services Team of counsellors, social workers, psychologist and administration.
  • Effective management of resources, business growth and sustainability.
  • As a member of the leadership team, contribute to implementation of the Diocesan vision and strategy.
  • Delivery of programmes and services that align with community needs, funder expectations, statutory requirements and the agency mission.
  • Championing, advocating for, and actively managing the wellbeing of the staff support team, with the goal of creating a strong, high-performing, united team.
  • Identifying and delivering new and extended business opportunities, to secure a range of income streams and grow a sustainable Social Services business.
  • Maintaining community connections and an awareness of the resources and services available to individuals and families.

 

What you will bring:

The skills and attributes we are seeking include the following:

  • Understanding of this sector (NGO’s) with an ability to network within the sector (Social Services arena)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Background in counselling, social work or psychology
  • Experience delivering service excellence
  • Good understanding of social needs, and able to identify gaps in the community
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and support a team to deliver quality outcomes
  • Senior Leadership experience with an understanding of the motivation and management of diverse, multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience in initiating, embracing and leading positive change
  • Understanding of Professional membership and requirements, and the code of ethics of the profession
  • Proven ability in stakeholder engagement
  • Resourcefulness regarding problems and opportunities
  • An open-minded approach whereby you foster trust, transparency and equality
  • Good judgement and a high level of personal integrity
  • An understanding and empathy with the ethos of the Roman Catholic Church.
