About the Trust

Central Lakes Trust (CLT) is dedicated to supporting charitable organisations within the Central Lakes funding region.

Since its inception in 2000, CLT has granted over $146.6 million, with grants averaging $9 million per annum. Grants are diverse and representative of the communities CLT serves, from environment and heritage to community wellbeing, to community recreation, arts and culture and lifelong learning.

Under sound stewardship of its investment portfolio, CLT has grown the amount settled on the Trust at its inception from $155 million to assets totalling $493 million as at FY ending 31 March 2024.

The most significant asset (35%) is Pioneer Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of CLT. The remaining 65% is a diversified investment portfolio of domestic and global managed funds, some private equity and direct investments.

The Trustee

The Board has eight Trustees, three of whom are appointed. The current vacancy has arisen due to a Trustee stepping down after two terms.

CLT is committed to honouring te Tiriti o Waitangi. As the successful Trustee, you will be expected to embrace and progress this commitment.

You will bring significant governance experience with specific skills and abilities relating to:

  • Understanding the risks and opportunities associated with long term investment horizons.
  • Evaluating capital investment proposals.
  • Experience of, or knowledge in, the renewable and clean energy sectors.
  • Understanding of emissions reporting in investment portfolios.
  • Understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Central Lakes Trust community.

The Board’s preference is to appoint someone who resides within the Central Lakes region.

It is intended the new Trustee will begin their term at the beginning of December 2024.

The Board

The Board meets formally 11 times during the year. The Board has three committees: the Investment Committee, the Remuneration and Nomination Committee and Audit and Risk Committee.

Trustees also attend community functions to represent CLT.

Trustees receive an annual fee with additional fees paid for committee roles and/or holding the position of chair.
