Our Local Expertise Driving Our Global Excellence

The 13th Annual AltoPartners Global Conference took place in Venice, Italy, from 26 - 28 June 2019.

Delegates from across our global alliance met to work together to strengthen our status as a global player; develop opportunities for cross-border business development and cement our position as true challengers in the market. The meeting sessions - whether led by internal speakers or facilitated by external industry experts - each addressed specific goals we wanted to achieve and fell within the three strategic pillars of:

1) Marketing & Communication,

2) Technology & Innovation, and

3) Business Development.

This conference created an opportunity to bring our extraordinarily talented group of people together to pause, reflect, and refocus on the future of our very special alliance; an alliance dedicated to the art and science of finding the perfect match in an era of disruption and digitalisation.

Finding New and Better Ways to Leverage our Collective Strength - Ensuring we Remain Relevant in an Increasingly Changing World

The conference theme centred around Business Development and we posed this challenging question :

How do we – as independent, entrepreneurial firms, each hugely experienced and knowledgeable in our respective sectors and countries – leverage off each other to add value to clients - and in the process - build our brand, and grow our business, thereby setting up a virtuous circle of fulfilment?

While a number of our conference sessions specifically addressed ways to work effectively together and sharing of best practice across business streams such as board advisory and leadership advisory, it was the participation of our external guests that amplified the conference by addressing trending topics that impact our local businesses, namely:

1. Business Development - A Client’s Perspective

A panel discussion that included leading international clients like Fabrizio Ruggiero (Europcar), Filippo Scotti (FS International), Gianluca Soma (Société Générale) and Paola Vezzaro (Engie). In the discussion facilitated by Corinne Klajda, participants revealed international market dynamics and nuances which are challenging to deal with and the type of talent they would need within their businesses to help drive their businesses into the future - particularly skills associated with refocusing traditional business models and innovating them. Of additional interest to our delegates, our panelists shared insights and learnings based on their experiences of how they have integrated multi-generational workforces globally. Later, guests joined delegates for dinner and they were able to tap into the expertise of our delegates to help them address specific needs within their businesses.

2. AI, Digitisation & Talent Management

A keynote address by Peter Wienand (Roland Berger Digital) on the implications for business in the digital era and what businesses need to be thinking about now in order to stay current and relevant. While we aren’t about to be made redundant just yet, we do need to pay attention to the opportunities and threats presented by the increasing digitalisation of the recruitment industry.

3. Family-Owned Businesses & The Opportunities (and challenges) Facing these entities

Matteo Lunelli, owner and Chairman of Ferrari F.lli Lunelli, one of the most successful Italian family-owned luxury wineries spoke to delegates about his business and addressed questions from delegates about talent management in family-owned businesses, succession planning, leadership development and attracting top quality talent (not from within the family) to complement the existing skills and take the business forward.

4. Encouraging Teams to Perform in Uncertain Situations

Award-winning British yachtswoman, Dee Caffari, MBE, shared leadership insights with the delegates of the AltoPartners 13th Annual Global Conference, drawing skilful parallels between leading diverse teams through challenging experiences and what’s happening across offices and boardrooms globally. Dee Caffari has sailed around the world six times. She is the first woman to have sailed single-handed and non-stop around the world in both directions and the only woman to have sailed non-stop around the world a total of three times. In 2006 Dee became the first woman to sail solo, non-stop, around the world against the prevailing winds and currents and was awarded an MBE in recognition of her achievement.
