About the Role

The recent merger of the People and Safety team has led to a more integrated approach to the full employee experience at LPC.  With around 25 people in the People & Safety team, the Senior People BP reports to the Head of People, leading a small team and working closely to support the operational managers across the Container Operations business unit.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership & senior expertise across the full range of the people team portfolio, earning the trust of peers & leaders throughout the business
  • Partner confidently with Container Operations to deeply understand their business drivers, providing generalist operational services and support              
  • Support business leaders to prepare for contract negotiations, fostering effective union relationships
  • Collaborate closely with the Safety and the Culture & Transformation teams to ensure the embedding of LPC values and behaviours through a variety of initiatives
  • Be a good team member contributing to operational excellence in the people team.

Skills & Experience 

The successful candidate will be a Senior People Leader with strengths in employment relations, ideally experienced working collaboratively in a unionised workforce within a port, heavy industry or manufacturing environment. You will have:

  • A pragmatic and mature approach with the confidence to collaborate effectively at all levels, standing your ground when appropriate
  • A track record of successfully influencing leaders across the business, with proven experience building high trust relationships
  • Expertise in the effective negotiation of Collective Employment Agreements using an interest-based approach to bargaining
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand Employment legislation and regulations
  • Good visibility as a leader and is courageous in challenging the business to embrace change.
