About the Company:

CORDE is one of the South Island’s largest horizontal infrastructure businesses, combining civil construction, three waters infrastructure and regional asset maintenance under one roof. Based in Rolleston, the team works across Canterbury and the wider region, delivering projects and maintaining the roads, pipes and assets that communities depend on every day.

A CCTO, owned by Selwyn District Council, CORDE’s purpose is clear: trusted connections that strengthens its communities. The culture is down to earth and values-driven - built around: being trustworthy (whakawhirinaki), working together (mahi tahi) and protecting people and place (kaitiakitanga).

The business has experienced significant growth over the past five years and is focused on building internal capability across people, processes and systems, to strengthen and sustain that momentum and position itself for future success.

About the Role:

This is a new role, created off the back of a strategy refresh and a deep understanding of what CORDE needs to grow revenue and achieve profitable growth. Reporting to the CEO, the GM - Transformation & Business Services takes accountability for running CORDE’s strategy process end-to-end, and leading the enabling functions – Finance, HSEQ, People & Culture, Digital and Portfolio Management – as a single, unified team.

You’ll build a shared service model helping translate strategy into delivery, lift process maturity across CORDE, and support the enabling functions to better serve the operational teams. In addition to leading the team you will support governance with Company Secretary, board Committee and board meeting actions.

This is a three-year fixed term, is set up as a focused transformation engagement. By year three you’ll have built something that lasts – and the conversation about what comes next will be an open one.

Skills & Experience:

CORDE’s culture is relaxed, relatable and inclusive – this is not a place for command and control. The right person will be an enabler and a capability builder, someone who can earn trust quickly, has a clear point of view, and knows how to bring people with them. You’ll need to be as comfortable at the Board table as you would onsite with a local team.

In terms of experience, you will bring:

  • A background in senior leadership roles spanning multiple corporate functions – ideally within horizontal infrastructure, construction, utilities or asset-intensive sectors. A combination of commercial and local government experience would be a bonus.
  • Proven track record of identifying and converting growth opportunities including new markets and new revenue streams.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute enterprise-level strategy, and to translate that strategy into a clear, prioritised delivery programme.
  • Experience building and embedding service delivery models and lifting process maturity across complex organisations.
  • A track record of coaching functional leaders – developing capability and lifting strategic contribution.
  • Experience with portfolio and programme management.
  • Board-level engagement experience – ideally including Company Secretary responsibilities or close involvement in governance and committee work.
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Law, Management or a related field. Portfolio/project management certification is an advantage.
