Cromwell, Central Otago

  • Lead a team at the heart of Delta’s Central Otago work programme
  • Senior leadership role - 2IC to the Regional Manager
  • Central Otago lifestyle based in Cromwell
  • Competitive salary + full private use vehicle

About the Company:

Delta keeps the South Island running.  Its teams design, project manage, build, maintain and operate the electricity networks that power homes and businesses across the South Island, and also look after parks, trees and metering.  With more than 600 skilled people, Delta is owned by Dunedin City Council through Dunedin City Holdings.  Delta’s vision is simple: great people shaping better communities together.

The way Delta works comes down to three values.  Do It First means thinking boldly and always looking for a better way.  Do It Right means doing what’s right by customers and by each other.  Do It Together means sharing ideas and working as one team to get the best result.  Delta is also WorkWell Bronze accredited, recognising its commitment to the health and wellbeing of its people.

About the Role:

This role is the heart of Delta Central Otago.  Every job in the region, stretching from Glenorchy to Makarora to St Bathans, is initiated, designed, priced, quoted and scheduled through the planning team before the field crews get to work.  If it happens on the network in Central Otago, it starts with you.

Based in Cromwell and reporting to the Regional Manager Central, you’ll be his 2IC leading a team of around 16 people.  You’ll own the 12-month works plan, working closely with Aurora Energy and other clients to understand their priorities and turn them into a programme that keeps crews and plant productive and gets projects delivered safely, on time and on budget.

You’ll make sure designs and estimates meet client service levels, pricing is accurate and commercially sound, contracts and risks are properly reviewed, and clients get a ‘no surprises’ service.  You’ll also play a key part in growing the business, building the work pipeline, pursuing tenders and finding new clients and opportunities.

Skills & Experience:

You’ll be an experienced, hands-on leader who understands both asset management and what it takes to get the work done on the ground to meet the client’s needs.  Relationships are important to you, whether it’s building, motivating and developing a team or really getting to know your client’s business.

You get the pace of contracting and juggling priorities comes naturally to you, staying calm under pressure when it matters most.  You’ll also bring:

  • An electrical trade or engineering qualification.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing projects in electricity distribution, utilities or infrastructure, ideally including projects of $5m+.
  • Strong commercial skills, including pricing and estimating, budgets, contracts and risk (knowledge of NZS 3910 is a plus).
  • A full Class 1 driver licence.

Experience gained with a lines company, generator-retailer, or an engineering consultancy or contracting business would be highly relevant.
