At the recent Emeritus Partners event, John Martins, an Emeritus Partner, shared a unique piece of Sheffield history: a light-hearted job advertisement from 1986 seeking to recruit Santa Claus.
Although the ad was written in good humour, it reflects something important about Sheffield’s story. For over sixty years, Sheffield has been trusted to identify and place exceptional leaders in roles that shape organisations and communities. The creativity behind this playful ad mirrors the same commitment and passion that drive our work today. We take pride in understanding people, building strong leadership and helping businesses succeed. These values have guided us since the beginning and continue to define who we are.
We have included a photo of the original ad below. It is a reminder that even in the serious world of executive search, there has always been room for a touch of holiday cheer.
Meri Kirihimete from Sheffield!

Jovial Distributor
Global Overnight Contract
Fast Packaged Goods Delivery Service to Small Consumers
Once again, due to seasonal demand, we are seeking a genial, outgoing person of florid complexion and substantial girth for a comprehensive worldwide distribution programme.
The position requires the personal delivery of small packages to all types of residential accommodation. Discretion is essential. Access to consumers is accomplished in darkness via a non secure feature of the domestic heating system.
A modern packaging department, staffed by undersized gentlemen in pointed hats reports to the incumbent.
Remuneration is modest, consisting essentially of gratuities left at the customer interface. An ancient goods vehicle of indeterminate vintage, but with remarkable aerial properties is provided, propelled by an energy efficient team of antlered cervine quadrupeds with names of Germanic origin.
The appointee must perform effectively under the pressure of tight deadlines and maintain a jolly demeanour under stress. The ability to utter inarticulate vocal sounds of a reiterated "ho-ho" variety would be an advantage.
Applications, to arrive no later than December 24, should be addressed to our North Pole Office.
