New Project Director for Antarctica NZ

We have great pleasure in congratulating Jon Ager on his appointment as Project Director for the new Scott Base Redevelopment for Antarctica New Zealand. It was an honour for Sheffield to have partnered with Antarctica NZ on this “once in a lifetime” opportunity.

Found through Sheffield’s dedicated Search process, Jon has extensive project management experience and is a Chartered Project Professional with the Association of Project Management (APM).

Having previously worked for British Antarctic Survey as Director of the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme, Jon is no stranger to the challenges of rebuilding in the challenging Antarctic environment, having led a programme of work that delivered the Sir David Attenborough polar research vessel and supporting infrastructure, including new wharves on the continent and in South Georgia. He also commenced the construction of a new science operations facility - the Discovery Building - at Rothera Research Station, despite the impact of COVID-19.

Prior to this, Jon served for over 30 years in the Royal Air Force (RAF) and in the aerospace industry, delivering some of the UK Ministry of Defence’s largest and most complex projects. Retiring from the RAF with the ranking of Air Commodore, Jon was awarded a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE).
