Sheffield South Island enjoyed partnering again with Southern Waters in the appointment of three new Directors for their Board Rob Hewett, Fraser Jonker and Michael Sage.
These are additional key appointments to ensure the new Water entity is well equipped to deliver critical water services for its communities.
Rob Hewett is based in South Otago farming in the Manuka Gorge and has a long governance career, having resigned from the Silver Fern Farms board in 2025 after 17 years as a director and 11 as chair. He chairs several companies, including Farmlands, Fern Energy, Woolworks, AgriZeroNZ, Hilton Haulage and Rewiring Aotearoa, and is a Director of T&G Global, and was appointed Independent Chair of Bremworth in March 2025.
Fraser Jonker has spent 15 years as the Group CEO of Pioneer Energy. He is Chair of MainPower NZ, and Director of The Lines Company, Invest South and Buller Electricity as well as on the Board of Central Otago Health Services. Fraser has experience in major infrastructure investment restructure with experience on two electricity lines companies.
Michael Sage is a corporate and commercial lawyer and has worked in the utility and infrastructure sector since 1992. He has been a lead adviser on major projects in energy generation and distribution, transport, telecommunications, water and wastewater, airports, solid waste and urban redevelopment, and specialises in large-scale, long-term infrastructure funding, development and management. He is a director of Northland Waters, Northland’s water services company, and an independent member of Gisborne District Council’s water services committee.
