The Grey District is the gateway to the South Island’s West Coast, where the sea meets the mountains and the lakes are only a moment away. It is bounded by the Punakaiki River to the north, Craigeburn to the east and follows the Taramakau River to the Tasman Sea. It includes the popular tourist resort of Moana at Lake Brunner. The area of the Grey District is 3,513 square kilometres.

About The Role:
This is a new position created with Council’s focus on ensuring that the organisation is fit for the future as a customer-focussed organisation ready to address the challenges and opportunities ahead for the District.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the incumbent will lead the Finance Team along with a Lease and Land Advisor and an ICT department. The role is ultimately responsible for developing and executing financial planning and strategies to support the Council’s goals while also ensuring compliance with financial reporting regulations.

Skills & Experience:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced finance professional and natural people leader who enjoys bringing people together and fostering a positive workplace culture.
In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in strategic, senior financial planning roles
- Ideally a working knowledge of the strategic planning processes of Local Government
- A track record of success mentoring and leading a team
- Well-developed communication skills and sound commercial acumen
- An ability to build relationships and collaborate with varied stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes
- An understanding of the Council environment, and an appreciation for the political and sensitive nature of Local Government
- Experience overseeing an ICT business function would be advantageous
