The Company:
Central Plains Water Limited (CPWL) provides sustainable irrigation to the Canterbury Plains region. Established in 2003, CPWL obtained the consents to irrigate up to 60,000ha of farmland within the Central Plains area. The Scheme was constructed in three stages from 2014 to 2017, and now provides water to 45,000ha. Approximately half of this area was previously dryland, and the balance was able to convert from groundwater irrigation to more sustainable run of river irrigation.
CPWL operates under cooperative principles, with farmer shareholders owning shares based on their water requirements. This collaborative approach ensures that the collective good remains at the heart of the scheme, fostering world-leading outcomes in sustainable agriculture.
The company's vision, "sustainable water growing our world," reflects its commitment to enhancing natural resources for future generations.
