The New Zealand Financial Markets Association (NZFMA) is the professional body for institutional participants in New Zealand’s wholesale financial markets. A respected not-for-profit, NZFMA plays a pivotal role in setting industry standards, advocating for effective regulation, delivering key financial benchmarks and data services, and fostering capability across the sector.

We are now seeking an excellent Chief Executive who is expert in both strategic thinking and operational delivery.

About the role

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive is responsible for both the strategic direction and the operational delivery of NZFMA and its subsidiaries, including the NZ Financial Benchmark Facility (NZFBF) and the NZdata Service.

You will lead a small, high-performing team and engage directly with a wide range of stakeholders – from members and regulators to market participants and peer bodies. Crucially, you’ll be expected to deliver against strategic objectives, grow the Association’s membership and influence, and represent the interests of members with credibility and purpose.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering NZFMA’s strategic and operational objectives with clarity and momentum
  • Expanding and deepening member engagement and value
  • Leading effective advocacy for high standards and robust regulation
  • Managing strong relationships across government, industry and regulatory bodies
  • Building a constructive, inclusive, and outcomes-focused internal culture

About you

You’ll be a seasoned financial markets professional with a strong grasp of New Zealand’s wholesale market landscape and its regulatory context. Your track record will include successful delivery in leadership roles – not just vision setting, but execution. You’ll be known for your stakeholder credibility, commercial acumen, and ability to influence and collaborate across boundaries.

Crucially, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic objectives and operational results
  • Proven relationship management and advocacy skills, with members and regulators alike
  • Strong commercial and organisational leadership capability
  • A pragmatic, collegial leadership style and sound judgement
  • Passion for the integrity, professionalism, and sustainability of NZ’s financial markets

We are open to an appointment between three days per week to full time, which will be determined in conversation with the preferred candidate.

This is an influential, hands-on leadership role for someone ready to shape the future of New Zealand’s wholesale financial sector through delivery, engagement, and action.
