The Faculty of Law, Victoria University of Wellington is delighted to announce that Professor Geoff McLay, who has served as Acting Dean of Law, has been appointed as our new permanent Dean of the Faculty of Law.
Professor McLay has been an integral part of our faculty since 1995, contributing his expertise across a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses.
He has held positions as Law Commissioner (from 2010 to 2015) and as Chair of the Legislation Design Advisory Committee’s external subcommittee (until 2019)—significant contributions to the profession and to public law in New Zealand.
He is widely published, and his scholarship on law reform, torts, and equities reflects his dedication to advancing both academic rigour and the practical aspect of legal studies.
As an alumnus and long-standing academic member himself, Professor McLay brings a real passion for this faculty's rich history and promising future. He will officially begin his new role on 18 November and looks forward to serving our community of students, scholars, and professional staff.
