Katy Anquetil, Executive Director Wellington, attended the Wellington Homeless Women's Trust and National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges benefit last week.
At Sheffield, we are constantly inspired by the work of these groups and the impact of community. We are looking forward to the next event, and how we can support making positive change.
I was honoured to attend a gala dinner last week to benefit the Wellington Homeless Women's Trust and National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges.
The gala was a beautiful convergence of compassion, purpose, and community. We heard from political, business and community leaders about the power of values and purpose led leadership. The goal of the night, however, was to raise awareness and funds for two incredible charities doing incredible work every day and night in our communities.
The statistics are staggering with National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges’s noting that one in three women will experience family violence in their lifetime, and that last year nearly 50,000 women and children were referred to their services. Last year Wellington Homeless Women's Trust provided a staggering 4,747 safe nights to women in need of transitional housing.
Whilst I acknowledge there are many causes worthy of support, and that times are tough, if you have the means then I highly recommend donating $20 to provide a safe night for a woman in need.
Gathering so many people and decision makers to support this work would not have been possible without the inspired compassionate leadership of Kirsten (KP) Patterson and Dame Therese Walsh. Their commitment to the kaupapa and leadership in this space is inspired. Special thanks to Jen Broster for the invitation.
