Marketing Manager

Reference Number: 7817aa

Location: Palmerston North

Palmerston North (or, as we like to call it, Palmy) is a growing and exciting city.  Our vision focuses on small city benefits with big city ambition and, with significant investments in the city over the next ten years, our future looks bright.  We embrace our advantages as a connected, safe, and liveable city, with a thriving arts scene and highly regarded education offerings.  We are future-focused with our innovations, city developments, and environmental sustainability.  We are a fantastic place to live, work and play.

We are looking for an inspiring and experienced marketing manager to provide leadership to our marketing team.  You will be a creative, quick thinker, who can lead some of our larger marketing projects while providing support and guidance to our marketing advisors and design team.  You will be a passionate brand ambassador who will embrace and promote our Palmy brand and our strategic position.  What is your strategic position, you ask?  We are stamping our mark as the leading food innovation capital of New Zealand.  Not only does this mean we love food and the innovations coming out of Palmy, it also means we are fresh with our thinking and we are industry leaders.  So, naturally, you will be an industry leader when it comes to management and marketing too.

You will showcase your outstanding marketing knowledge when you pull together creative, bespoke, and exciting marketing plans and campaigns.  And you will provide thoughtful feedback on other team members’ plans.  You will navigate print and digital marketing with ease, and will be able to develop a strong marketing budget that utilises paid and free advertising.

Local government is a fast-paced and demanding environment, so you will be able to manage the marketing team’s priorities and understand its workflow.  As a Council, we have a clear set of strategic goals so, when you are delivering engaging marketing, you will also ensure it aligns with our goals.  You will support the marketing team so that the needs of our Council, our city, and our stakeholders can be met (and exceeded, of course!)

You will be a skilled people person who can build and maintain positive relationships within Council, with our leadership team, and with stakeholders.  Your strategic knowledge of business, finance, and the local government political environment will ensure you manage partnerships and resources effectively.  You will also be able to manage and build top-notch relationships with our media and account managers.  Your savvy negotiation skills will come to the table when you are working through media agreements too.

If you are an experienced leader who can also walk the marketing talk, this might just be the job for you!
