Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this Role

Sheffield Search is assisting the New Zealand Rugby (NZR) Board Appointments and Remuneration Panel (ARP) to facilitate the recruitment of the final appointment for the recently formed NZ Rugby Board, to consist of the Chair and eight Independent Board Members.

Following the recent governance review, and subsequent ratification of eight of the nine board appointments late last year, NZR now formally invites applications from a suitably qualified, experienced governance professional to take up the last of the nine governance positions. Given the appointments that have been made, the final Prospective Board member must have served on the board of, or held an executive management position within, a New Zealand Provincial Rugby Union, and must be female, in order for the Board to meet the requirements of the NZR constitution. The successful candidate must also be able to demonstrate that they can think and act independently, and the appointment will need to be ratified by the Affiliated Bodies (Provincial Unions and the NZ Māori Rugby Board).

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | Key Skills and Experience

Alongside the above stipulations, highly sophisticated skills and experience to be considered carefully for the Board, which will assist and guide the decision-making process, amongst other factors, include:

  • Sound commercial skills;
  • Financial acumen;
  • Deep knowledge of rugby at all levels of the game in New Zealand;
  • Experienced leadership capability; and
  • A genuine connection to NZR’s kaupapa and values, including a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

New Zealand Rugby’s purpose is to lead, grow, support and promote New Zealand’s game.

It represents New Zealand on rugby organisations internationally, has ultimate responsibility for the performance of the All Blacks, Black Ferns and other men’s and women’s teams in black and, in partnership with the 26 Provincial Unions, contributes to the health of rugby at all levels. One of its goals is for rugby to be at the heart of our communities, and communities at the heart of rugby.

The Rugby Way (Te Ara Ranga Tira) drives everything the organisation does, which is about Te Pou Maioha, Being welcoming, Te Pou Hiranga, Being our best, Te Pou Ihiihi, Evoking passion and Te Pou Tika, Inspiring fair play.

New Zealand Rugby is the kaitiaki of the game New Zealanders love – whether it’s down at the local club on a chilly Saturday morning or getting up in the middle of the night to support our Teams in Black overseas. Being guardians of something so treasured by Kiwis comes with great responsibility. The organisation is future-focused whilst respecting where it has come from.
