About the Council:

The Grey District is the gateway to the South Island’s West Coast, where the sea meets the mountains and the lakes are only a moment away.  It is bounded by the Punakaiki River to the north, Craigeburn to the east and follows the Taramakau River to the Tasman Sea.  It includes the popular tourist resort of Moana at Lake Brunner.  The area of the Grey District is 3,513 square kilometres.

The Grey District is the Heart of the West Coast and is rich in history and character.  Key industries are health care and social assistance, retail, construction, education, manufacturing and services industries.

About The Role: 

This is a new position created with Council’s focus on ensuring that the organisation is fit for the future as a customer-focussed organisation ready to address the exciting challenges and opportunities ahead for the District.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the incumbent will lead a team of specialists responsible for leading the strategic and operational functions of the community and recreation, regulatory services and building control divisions. 

A great opportunity to step into an executive role, working with a focused and energetic Chief Executive and Leadership Team passionate about the future of Greymouth and the wider region. 

 

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing customer-focused teams dedicated to achieving positive results for the community.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of the strategic planning processes of Local Government
  • An excellent understanding of the Local Government Act, Resource Management Act and other relevant legislation
  • An understanding of the Council environment and the political setting in which it operates
  • A successful track record of mentoring staff and building capability across your teams
  • An ability to apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
