About The School: 

Proud of their diversity, and with a commitment to fostering personal excellence, Te Kura o Waimairi-iri Burnside High School is a state coeducational secondary school situated in the northwest of Christchurch City.

Opened in 1960, the school’s catchment area includes parts of the Avonhead, Russley, Burnside, Fendalton and Ilam residential areas and reflects a wide range of socio-economic groups.

With a roll of 2600 students supported by 160 teachers and staff, it is the largest coeducational school in the South Island.   

About The Role: 

Responsible to the Deputy Principal, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator will support and promote Burnside High School through the delivery of a structured and innovative approach to marketing.

With strong relationships and credibility with staff and students as well as parents and the wider community, you will lead effective communications and marketing, helping the school build on its reputation and celebrate all aspects of learning. 

The role works directly with the Principal as a key stakeholder and works collaboratively with the Enrolment, Media and Publicity Officer, in the delivery of marketing and media services.

Skills and Experience:

As the successful candidate you will know what innovative communications and marketing looks like.  Skilled in getting the best out of a variety of media channels including social media to reach diverse target audiences, you will develop and deliver strategies, evaluating their effectiveness to get the best reach. With a passion for compelling writing, a love of great copy and a creative eye for design, you will enhance the visibility, presence and reputation of the school.  You will support and model the school values at all times.

In addition, you will have:

  • A track record of success in marketing and communication, to raise the profile of an organisation
  • Skills in evaluating the effectiveness of marketing strategies along with sound knowledge of website analytics tools and be digitally savvy
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • An ability and willingness to work collaboratively, positively and supportively as a member of the staff team
  • A proactive and engaging style, with demonstrated ability to influence
  • A learning mindset, an accountable approach to work and willingness to use your initiative
  • Highly organised, with good time management and ability to juggle competing priorities.

A Bachelor of Business/Commerce degree in Marketing/Communications or related field would be an advantage.
