The North Canterbury Rural Support Trust is part of this nationwide network supporting farmers and their families through tough times.
The Trust has access to networks, services and government funding and can help people navigate their financial and personal challenges, or assist during climatic adverse events like drought, flood, or heavy snow.
Free and confidential assistance is available through the Trust’s Facilitators who are rural people who have themselves faced the challenges rural life brings.
The North Canterbury Rural Support Trust is a charitable trust that encompasses the five District councils of Kaikoura, Hurunui, Waimakariri, Selwyn and Christchurch, including Banks Peninsula. We also support farmers on the Chatham Islands.
About the Role:
The role of Trustee is to manage the governance of the NCRST. Key objectives include identifying, supporting and coordinating the Trust’s Facilitators who do the frontline work of the Trust.
A Trustee would need to be based within (or close to) North Canterbury and be able to dedicate between 1 – 4 hours per week. The Trust meets four times per year plus at the AGM.
The role of a Trustee is volunteer and unpaid.
Skills & Experience:
First and foremost, a Trustee must be able to relate to rural people and have an affinity for the rural sector and its unique culture.
Other skills that would be valued by the Trust include:
- Experience putting in place robust structures to recruit, train and manage people to ensure the Facilitators have the appropriate knowledge and skills to provide the assistance our rural communities require.
- A proven track record around financial matters, particularly financial record keeping, budgeting and reporting.
- Governance experience would be well-regarded, although are not essential as this could be a good opportunity for someone looking to develop their governance skillset.
